Fodor's guides are nothing if not exhaustive (sometimes exhausting). An enormous amount of work obviously went into this one, and, as someone who's read many books on the state as a whole and the individual islands, I feel this is a solid worki.

Pros:
1. Is now in full color - with a lot more pictures
2. More maps than previous editions
3. As with editions past, has categories separated by island and subcategories within. The actives sections include several referrals so that you can start planning right away
4. The book layout makes it very easy to read and includes sample itineraries for various lengths of stay

I have to say, I like this book as a read. The style it is written is down to earth and in tune with the average family, who may want to visit Hawaii. I am not a highly experienced Hawaii visitor; I have been twice, to the same spot. With that, though, I was able to read about where I went and I believe it was pretty much on the money. Many guide books are collections of one paragraph descriptions. What's great about this book is that it has a nice travel magazine / field guide feel to it. There are short articles that cover local food, tropical fish, leis, volcanoes, and more. This supplements the descriptions and tips of the attractions which are nicely indexed and organized.
