The black dial makes the black needle less visible. A green needle would've corrected it. The red needle does not reset at 0. You need to reset both needles. I tested a 25 lb barbell several times, reset, and each time a different reading, up to 5 lbs (+) and (-). The hook and handle seem sturdy but other than that, have a bathroom scale handy.
